DIGITAL DRAWINGS

Drawings / Paintings

Drawing is the one part of what I do that doesn't have to answer to anyone. No client, no brief, no brand guidelines to stay inside of, just me, a pencil or my iPad, and whatever's stuck in my head that day. Some of it is pencil studies from my sketchbook: still lifes, portraits, whatever's sitting in front of me, done slowly, mostly to keep my hand honest and remind myself what form and proportion actually feel like when you're not relying on shortcuts. Some of it is digital, quick sketches in Procreate of characters or scenes I'm a little obsessed with that week, nothing polished, nothing meant to go anywhere

This was a small case study for a indie game studio: they needed a piece of environment concept art, a scenery that could set the mood for their world before anything else got built on top of it. I leaned into a warm, rust-toned palette for the foliage against cool, misty blues for the mountains and distant towers, so the trees would read as the focal point even in a wide, open landscape. It's a different kind of illustration for me: less about a single character or object, more about building an atmosphere someone could imagine actually walking into.

A mermaid, painted purely because I wanted to draw something soft and a little silly. There's no brief here, no client, just a character I felt like spending an afternoon with. I got a little obsessed with the tail, layering in that shifting, iridescent quality scales have when the light hits them at an angle, somewhere between blue and violet depending on where you look. Everything else got to be as playful as I wanted: a sun with a tiny face, hand-drawn sparkle doodles scattered across the sand and water, a color palette I picked purely because I liked how it felt, not because it needed to fit inside a brand system. Pieces like this one are less about technique and more about staying loose, letting a character be whatever she wants to be instead of whatever a project needs her to be.

Stella and Bloom, from Winx Club, the show I grew up completely obsessed with. I wanted to be them when I was a kid, the hair, the wings, the transformation sequences, all of it. Drawing them now is part nostalgia, part just wanting to see if I could actually pull off that specific kind of glossy, magical-girl style I used to trace in the margins of my notebooks.
