HOSPITAL PROJECT

I designed this project while working at Make-A-Wish Turkey. For the children's ward of a hospital in Ümraniye, Istanbul, I designed a series of murals running along the corridor, one design per wall, each with its own scene: clouds and hot air balloons on one, a rainbow catching a kite on another, a moon watching over sleeping rabbits on a third. Everything was designed in Illustrator rather than painted by hand, but the intention behind it stayed the same either way, this wasn't decoration, it was meant to change how a specific hallway felt to walk through.
Each wall had to work two ways at once: different enough up close to feel like its own small scene, but built from the same palette and the same visual language, so the whole corridor reads as one continuous idea rather than separate pieces stitched together. That idea was simple: hope should be the first thing you see. Every color and character was chosen with that hallway specifically in mind, kids walking through it are often in the middle of one of the hardest chapters of their lives, and even a small shift in what surrounds them for those few minutes felt worth designing carefully for.
The murals were made possible by Make-A-Wish Turkey's donors, and I think about that a lot when I look back on this project, it exists because people who will probably never meet the kids who see it every day chose to fund something that has no function beyond making a hallway feel less like a hospital. Designing something meant to sit quietly in the background of someone else's hard day is a different kind of brief than most of my other work, there's no logo to make memorable, no campaign to make people click, just an atmosphere to get right
Of everything I've made, this is still the work I'm proudest of, not because of the technique, but because of what it's actually there to do. It's the project that reminds me why I wanted to do this in the first place, design isn't just for brands and campaigns, sometimes it's for a kid having a bad week who just needs one hallway to feel a little kinder.
